Auro school gets a varying age of students at intake, from some that have completed primary schooling to those that have some secondary school. This age gap results in varying degrees of spoken English, which is essential for students in understanding the classes, taught in English, and for their future employment prospects. As a result, the vocational training is supplemented by English classes taken by English teacher Peninah. One Cause director Rajen and volunteer Prina sat in one of Peninah’s classes at Auro School and took this short clip for you – check it out!

One Cause director Rajen Shah visited our Auro alumni who had completed the Auro training program and also met with employers to discuss ways of enhancing the future employability of our students. Nyanza Textile Industries Ltd (Nytil) is Uganda’s largest integrated textile industry, and have provided amazing support to our students in getting their first job. Based in Jinja, it is just over 130 km from Auro School. Here, Rajen met up with some of our alumni and discussed future options with the Nytil HR manager. One such idea which has received backing in principle from the firm is an internship scheme where all Auro tailoring students would have a 3-4 week internship at Nytil which we could integrate within the course! Watch the space, exciting times are ahead! Thank you Nytil!
